How are the winnings and the losses of the user calculated by the Betting Exchange or the Bookmaker?

If the user wishes to back a certain outcome of a certain event his winnings will be his stake multiplied by the decimal odds. His liability will be the stake itself.

If the user wishes to lay a certain outcome of a certain event he will select the stake of the backer, which, multiplied by the laying odds will be his (the layer’s) winnings if the outcome indeed doesn’t occur. The liability of the layer will be the backer’s stake multiplied by the laying decimal odds -1. Both the Betting exchange software and the Bookmaker software will calculate the potential payout and the potential liability the moment the user enters the stake, even before it is submitted to allow a more informed decision.
